Caravaggio to Canaletto. The Glory of Italian Baroque and Rococo Painting – 26.10.2013-16.02.2014 – Szépművészeti Múzeum / Museum of Fine Arts, Budapeszt / Budapest
I wonder if we went to this museum or another one. It was in hero square. It was very disappointing,a run down building with very few collections or exhibition. No Caravaggio …or big names. I love antiquities but the gallery was basically empty ..perhaps it was waiting fir revocation ? It was in Oct 2013.
This exhibition started at the end of October – probably you were to early 😦
It was in the Szépművészeti Múzeum (Museum of Fine Arts), this the main art museum.
They have in their own collection paintings by Raphael, Bronzino, Bruegel, El Greco, Velazquez etc…
It was this museum that I visited. Perhaps at that time, it had something going on. It was like preparing for renovation or something. The Opera House was great. We had a tour there, and attended a short concert after the tour. The Opera singer sang two arias which were fabulous.
Maybe they were preparing for… this exhibition?
Anyway – good you had a nice time in Budapest!
